Matt Barkway

Matt grew up in the small town of Shellbrook, Saskatchewan where he first learned to golf.  A junior career spent mostly at Cooke Municipal Golf Course in Prince Albert, Waskesiu Golf Course After high school he came to Lethbridge Community College to pursue a career in his sport of choice. 

After a one year stint in Kananaskis, Matt came to Paradise Canyon where he started in the backshop and worked his way through the ranks to Associate Professional.  These years were highlighted by winning the 2000 Alberta P.G.A. playability test as well as competing in the Telus Open in Edmonton 4 times.  Matt wrote his Class ‘A’ exam in 2003 and became a full member of the C.P.G.A. at that time. 

After 10 years Matt left Paradise and spent one year competing full time.  This year consisted of a Winter Series on the Gateway Tour in Phoenix during 2008 followed by a trip to the Canadian Tour’s Spring Q-School in Vancouver as well as following the Tour through Western Canada.  After a year competing Matt re-joined Paradise Canyon as the Head Professional. 

Matt has 12 years experience in the golf industry specializing in business, management, and teaching.  Between competing and teaching Matt has a deep knowledge of the game of golf as well as how the business works.  While it is difficult to keep the game in competing shape in this position, Matt still enjoys the occasional competitive round. 

Whether you need to book an event, order some clubs/clothing or get help with your game Matt is your man.

 
 
Jae Maegaard

Born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta Jae’s passion for the game of golf developed at the young age of 12 and has flourished ever since.

In 1997, Jae joined the Picture Butte Golf Club as a junior member and soon after began working in their Back Shop. Four years later he moved into the Pro Shop and worked there for two seasons. At this time he obtained his professional status and enrolled in the Professional Golf Management Program at the Lethbridge College.

In 2004, Jae joined the Pro shop Staff at Paradise Canyon and had the opportunity to organize and teach the Junior Program. He excels in providing the juniors with quality instruction while keeping them enthused about the game. Jae has obtained his level 1 through 4 teaching and coaching certificates and has been teaching individual and group lessons for those of all ages for the last five years. 

In 2008, Jae accepted an Assistant Professional position at the Henderson Lake Golf Club, but was soon to return to Paradise a year later as the Associate Professional for the 2009 season.

 
 
Jimmy Saran

Born and raised in Fernie, British Columbia, Jimmy began golfing at the age of 11.  He attended a University in the United States on a golf scholarship, where he obtained an accounting degree.  

Jimmy has played professional golf on the Gateway Tour, Tight Lies Tour and tried to qualify for the Asian Tour as well as the Canadian Tour.  Previously, he has worked at the Crowsnest Pass Golf Course where he got his Canadian Professional Golf Card. He joined Paradise Canyon Golf Resort in 2008. 

Jimmy has worked with nationally recognized coaches over his professional career and has learned a great deal from the best coaches, which in turn he can help instruct others. 

Jimmy excels at providing quality instruction to people of all ages and skill level, while bringing a fun and relaxing approach to the golf game.

Bio:

  • Born in Lethbridge and played junior golf here
  • Head Professional at Land-O-Lakes Golf Club 1991 –1995
  • Left Land-O-Lakes to play professionally in the US in 1995
  • Returned in 1999 and worked at Henderson Lake Golf Club (Associate Professional), Taber Golf Club (Head Professional), and Evergreen Golf Centre (Associate Professional) where teaching became focus.
  • Named Junior Leader of the Year by the Alberta P.G.A. for 2008
  • Accepted the position of National Tournament Operations Manager for the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour in 2008 to work full time with junior golfers in the country
  • Accepted the position as Head of Instruction for The Golf Academy at Paradise Canyon in 2009

Numerous career highlights in playing and teaching.  Have had the opportunity to observe top 100 teachers give live lessons, continually educating to be on the cutting edge of golf instruction and have the pleasure of teaching many good juniors and professionals in the area and in the province.
